Humility by Abraham Hunter

Humility by Abraham Hunter

This painting is a quite a bit unique in my body of work. I saw an old black and white image of a zoo lion looking up at a light and was inspired by the lion’s powerful pose as well as the feeling of submissiveness and innocence in his eyes. I saw a great deal of symbolism that I just had to rush and paint.

The Bible refers to Christ symbolically as the Lion of the Tribe of Judah. It represents His power, majesty, and everlasting kingdom reign. Just imagine how the omnipotent King Of Kings and Lion of Judah endured the greatest anguish ever recorded in history in the Garden of Gethsemane. In complete humility and knowing that he was about to die a horrible death for the sins of all mankind, He did not do His own will, but instead did the will of His Father in Heaven. Imagine how hard it was to obey… but yet he did it and triumphed!

In this painting, a beautiful, bold, kingly lion looks to heaven at the light in submission to the next command he receives from his master. The background is reminiscent of Gethsemane. We are all striving to be more like Christ. We enjoy the strength and promise and power that we have in Him, but are we always humble like Jesus was? Do we do exactly what he commands? Even when everything in us wants to run away?

From the Ashes by Abraham Hunter

From the Ashes by Abraham HunterDevastating forest fires destroyed so much here near my home in the Smoky Mountains last night. I could see the orange glow of flames and smoke through my window as Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge suffered under a historic and utterly heart-breaking night. I have watched so many friends lose homes and pets and businesses. I’ve been in tears since yesterday. I have felt so many people’s pain. But pain is my inspiration to do what I do best…paint to inspire and bring hope so I painted this painting today.

Life has a lot of extremely scary fires, and we question why God won’t just send us even a little rain. We don’t realize at the time that fires nourish the ground with nutrients, revitalize the ecosystem, and kill off the old growth to make way for the new. The forest will be so much more beautiful than it ever was before once spring brings new life after the fire.

This painting is a trail in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The friendly momma bear and her cubs are taking a morning walk to enjoy the new glorious life that has blossomed out of the charred remains of their home. They made it through the winter, and now life has a new beginning.

My friends, we will make it through this. This is just the master plan to make everything even more beautiful. Weeping endured for a night, but joy comes with the dawn!

Waiting by Abraham Hunter

Waiting by Abraham HunterExclusive Edition Event Piece available for all dealers on December 10th.

It can be difficult to incorporate people into artwork, but it is a challenge I have been interested in attempting. I had this idea come to me the other day. I wanted to express loneliness and trying to discover yourself and a sense of how small we are when you look over a vast ocean or survey the night sky. As I was almost ready to complete the painting, I backed off of the somber tone I was feeling when I heard the song “The Waiting” by Tom Petty. It inspired me to add the sailboat on the horizon so that it now looks like she is waiting for her ship to come in. I think we all can relate at some point in our lives with this mood and these emotions.
